Thirteen years later Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will be getting a sequel, titled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Destiny. Yuen Wo Ping, who acted as the fight choreographer for the original film, is taking over for Ang Lee and is set to direct. Michelle Yeoh will be reprising her role as Yu Shu Lien. According to EW.com, Zhang Ziyi is currently in talks to returnin as Jen Yu. If she does in fact return, she will appear in flashbacks to explain what happened to her character. What has me most excited though, is that Donnie Yen will be joining the cast, playing the character Silent Wolf. There’s no word yet, on if Chow Yun Fat will be involved.
I’m a bit hesitant to get completely excited for this movie. On one hand, several people from the original film will be returning and that’s always good. On the other hand, as I said previously stated, it’s been thirteen years since the first one. That’s quite a long time between movies. What gives me hope though is that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is actually part of a book series written by Du Lu Wang. So rather than being a completely unplanned sequel, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Destiny will be continuing the story.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Destiny is slated for production March 2014.
