Marvel Heroes is a game that is very reminiscent of the Diablo franchise, being a top down real time dungeon crawler. Though, that’s not a bad thing, if there is a good system in place which gamers love to use, then hell, why change it? The game starts out with some pretty flashy comic book styled cut scenes introducing you to the general theme and the bad guys and good guys. I have to say that it got me
into the moment, feeling like I might actually become a part of the game, and influence something within its universe.
The graphics are fantastic, the explosions look great, and fighting is pretty fun. Using your skills can be challenging as you try to conserve energy, especially in
and I love how most, if not all the skills pertain in some way perfectly
with the character you are playing. Though, with graphics being so good, I was distraught when I equipped my first pair of guns, only to find that the guns my character were holding didn’t change at all. When I got a new shirt, I was crying into my keyboard, because after a few minutes of seeing twenty or thirty other Rocky Raccoons, or the hundreds of Captain Americas, you realize there is no customization for your character, and it’s literally just about seeing your numbers go up.
That is a naughty “no no” in my book, You can’t tell me I put on a different pair of boots, but still look exactly the same! Half the fun of any RPG is seeing the new weapon you got, then laughing madly as you slash an orc across the face and turn him into chunks of digital meat.
As free to play games go though, it is not too bad, it has dozens of well known heroes for you to choose and play from, though of course, there is only a handful open to you to use. From that handful, you must pick one hero you like the best, to “uncap” him, so that he can level past 10, and you can enjoy the rest of the game. That’s the catch, of course, you have to pay to get a full roster of beefed out X-men. Though, I can understand it, and allowing the player to experience the game fully through one character is fair in my eyes. I, of course wanted to play as Deadpool, him being my favorite character, and I could only imagine what wisecracks and breaking of the fourth wall he would do. But, alas, I didn’t have him as a choice, so I chose rocky raccoon instead, vowing to unlock him once I get further into the game.
But! I realized, that I could play with Rocky up until level 10, but in order to unlock Deadpool I needed 600 shards of something, an item which drops semi-rarely, but only ever one at a time. I checked my inventory and saw I had picked up about 50

until level 10, or…. I grind out 550 more shards while level 10 as Rocky, and then unlock Deadpool and “Uncap” him. But If I had just put in four hours to get to level 10, and acquire 50 shards, then if I do the math, I’ve got to grind for
another 44 hours, not getting any stronger,
or picking up better items, I guess I would be getting richer. But what game do you know where the vendors in town sell better loot

I was at a
loss, and chose to just stick with Rocky Raccoon , swallowing my fan-boy love for “the
Pool” and attempting to enjoy my new found admiration for an anthropomorphic animal. All in all, it’s a decent free to play RPG MMO, great graphics, nice fighting system, and best if you pay for it, especially if you go into it expecting to play your favorite character.
