UFOLOGY #1 (of 6)
Authors: James Tynion IV & Noah J. Yuenkel
Artist: Matt Fox
Main: Matt Fox
Becky Finch never wanted to be special. She just wanted to be a normal high school student in the small, Midwestern town of Mukawgee. Malcolm Chamber wanted something more. A destiny. An answer from the stars. When Becky is marked by an alien’s touch, she’ll stumble into a mystery she never wanted. A mystery that almost ripped apart their parents’ lives 12 years ago. She’ll need the help of her eccentric young classmate, Malcolm, as she finds the power within herself to uncover the truth.
Company: Boom! Studios
My Thoughts: If James Tynion IV has proved anything, it’s that he and dealing with out-of-this-world stories (literally) have been a great hit amongst readers. The Woods has been a great series so I don’t expect any different from this mini-series, and he’s even bringing along a co-writer. Aliens, conspiracies, secrets… this is sooooo up my alley.

This is it! The entire DC Universe, from the dawn of time through The New 52, must fight to survive against a threat that bends the Multiverse to its will. Your favorite characters from every era and every forgotten series are all here! But are you going to say hello again just to say goodbye forever? The stakes have never been higher as the heroes of Crisis, Zero Hour, Elseworlds, and more are brought together for Convergence!
In the first issue of this weekly series, Brainiac has collected cities of doomed and forgotten worlds, who must battle each other – and the losers will be destroyed! But why is he forcing this conflict? Join the refugees from Earth-2 as they unlock the truth behind this world that exists outside time and space and is very much alive! Is Brainiac really in control – or is this planet named Telos an unparalleled force of evil?
This extra-sized issue is packed with twists and turns and appearances you NEVER thought you’d see – including the heroes from the hit series INJUSTICE!
Company: DC Comics
My Thoughts: And now the multiverse craziness begins. The Multiverse must fight to survive and it all begins with Braniac. Well, right of the back things are already at Defcon 1. If we didn’t already know things would pretty much go back to “normal” after the event, I’d say “Good luck DC. Hope you survive the experience” but that’s pretty much pointless to say. Good thing I didn’t say it!
CONVERGENCE: NIGHTWING/ORACLE #1
Written by GAIL SIMONE
Art by JAN DUURSEMA and DAN PARSONS
Cover by JILL THOMPSON
STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! Just as they’ve finally been reunited, the romance between Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon is sentenced to execution by Flashpoint Hawkman and Hawkwoman!
Company: DC Comics
My Thoughts: It is so great to have Nightwing back again. And to have him ‘partnered up’ with Oracle? Even better. Gail Simone writing it is just icing on the cake. Having the heroes be pre-Flashpoint? The cherry on the icing. Seriously, what can go wrong with this (he says hoping he doesn’t regret saying those words…)?
CONVERGENCE: SPEED FORCE #1
Written by TONY BEDARD
Art by TOM GRUMMETT and SEAN PARSONS
Cover by BRETT BOOTH and NORM RAPMUND
STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! The fastest family alive loses its powers as Wally West and his kids face an uncertain future while trapped away from home. Will they be able to outrun the chaos that follows the arrival of Flashpoint Wonder Woman? Plus, don’t miss the most unexpected Zoo Crew character of all!
Company: DC Comics
My Thoughts: Flash is basically my favorite DC hero/character (I’m sorry Batman…) so while the actual series takes a small break until June, I’m obviously going to get this to get my Scarlet Speedster fix. And again, having characters from pre-Flashpoint just puts a smile on my face, something the Joker would like, I’d bet.
PENNY DORA & THE WISHING BOX, VOL 1 TP
STORY: MICHAEL STOCK
ART / COVER: SINA GRACE
Once upon a time (on the day before Christmas) a young girl named Penny Dora found a mysterious box on her front doorstep. A magic box with the power to grant wishes. Which sounded great…until Penny Dora found herself face-to-face with a horde of fire-breathing dragons, oodles of monsters and at least seven dwarves…all thanks to the girl she used to call best friend, now known as Princess Elizabeth. An all-ages fantasy/adventure book for fans of Coraline and Courtney Crumrin!
Collects PENNY DORA & THE WISHING BOX #1-5
My Thoughts: An all-ages take on Pandora’s box, this tale is perfect no matter what age you are. It also makes for a perfect bed-time story for kids, as I’ve been told so by a friend after recommending it for his daughter, who loved it. The art is great, having everything look fun and exciting with the coloring done perfectly that fits the tone of the tale. It’s not a wordy book so for any young kid that reads won’t get lost or confused. Two thumbs up, all the way.
THE FADE OUT #7
STORY: ED BRUBAKER
ART: SEAN PHILLIPS & ELIZABETH BREITWEISER
COVER: SEAN PHILLIPS
Charlie is falling for the replacement blonde…but is he working her for information, or is she playing him for her own ends?
My Thoughts: Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips are two creators who definitely belong with each other in the comic world, like Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie. They’ve dazzled us with the incredible Criminal series and there’s no way they’re not going to do the same with Fade Out. These kinds of stories is their bread and butter and they certainly put on a good show.
UNCANNY INHUMANS #0
CHARLES SOULE (w) • STEVE MCNIVEN (a/C)
• The industry’s best-selling artist comes to the Inhumans!
• The prelude to one of Marvel’s biggest launches of 2015 is here!
• Think you know Black Bolt? Think again, as the men who killed Wolverine show you a side of the Inhuman King you’ve never seen before!
My Thoughts: Even though the ongoing looks like it won’t start until after Secret Wars, don’t let that shy you away from getting this single issue. Charles Soule is ruling the Inhumans side of Marvel and to have McNiven do the issue is oh-so-sweet. Now to have stories told with Black Bolt as the main character, showing us everything from his POV, it’s certainly going to be wonders that cannot be missed.
SECRET AVENGERS #15
ALES KOT (W)
MICHAEL WALSH (a)
Cover by TRADD MOORE
“ARC OF A JOURNEY”
• The end is the beginning is the end is the…
• Unlikely partners have a meeting far away from the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.
• The Secret Avengers run comes to its natural conclusion. Prepare your handkerchiefs.
My Thoughts: It was great having a sillier book amongst the serious and all from everything else Marvel publishes (not that it’s a bad thing, don’t misunderstand). A… let’s call it trend (for the lack of a better word) that really began with Fraction and Aja’s Hawkeye, it’s going to be sad to see the book go away. Just hopefully it’s not the end for good, and we see it come back after Secret Wars.
JONATHAN HICKMAN (W) • MIKE DEODATO (a)
Cover by DUSTIN WEAVER
My Thoughts: The issue that will basically serve as the prelude (of sorts) to Secret Wars, along with the final issue of New Avengers. Everything that McNiven has done in the books since the beginning (and maybe even before in other Marvel works) comes to a head. It’s arguably the most epic and biggest thing Marvel (and Hickman) have ever done. The final pieces have been set. It’s almost time to begin the game.
GUARDIANS TEAM-UP #4
JOHN LAYMAN (W) • OTTO SCHMIDT (A/C)
• She tough, she’s green, she’s in New York – and I want her DEAD!” That’s what the intergalactic bounty hunters were told when they took the assignment. Only it turns out there’s TWO people in New York who fit that exact description. Wanna find out what happens when you get BOTH of them mad? • Well, then read Guardians of the Galaxy Team-up #4!
My Thoughts: The first issue was a big disappointed and I honestly didn’t bother with the second, as it continued on from the first. Luckily, Brian Michael Bendis isn’t writing every issue. John Layman (from the Cyclops ongoing) takes a turn with the book this issue and teams up the Gamora with She-Hulk. Two ass-kicking, not-to-be-messed-with green skinned femme fatales should only prove to be a bad-ass issue. Bring it on!
